New Resident Park on Le Ann Lane and Turnbow Street
As many residents have noticed, there are the beginnings of a new community park and/or recreation area behind the mailboxes at the curve of Le Ann Lane and Turnbow Drive in the Phase II section of Quest Village. The plans for this area have not yet been finalized, however, through the efforts of the Homeowners Association, the land itself was deeded over to Quest Village by the developer (Blake McGee) for the cost of the title transfer fee only - which amounted to only $10.00. As many of you know, we only have one small park in our community at the corner of Discovery Boulevard and Stallion Drive. Not only is the is only parkland available at this time, but it is actually owned and maintained by the City and is designed for use by toddlers and small children. There are no current amenitites such as basketball courts, volleyball, etc. for older residents wishing to use the area. This are is proposed to be an area for use by older children and adults within Quest Village.
With this in mind, the parcel of land at Le Ann Lane and Turnbow Drive has been partially cleared of Cedar, Poison Oak, Poison Ivy, and other unwanted vegetaion by resident voluteers during three Looong days of HARD WORK. The call for volunteers was put out and many people showed up, power tools and gloves in hand, to 'tame the land'. Due to the fact that this has been a volunteer-only effort, progress has since stalled on this area until the weather warms back up again and we can try to finish what was started. As mentioned above, plans have not been finalized (due to resident involvement and budget constraints), but some of the proposed amentities include a half-pad basketball court, a sand volleyball court, aesthetic landscaping plans, a fountain, a trail with benches, and attractive masonry work around the large oaks. Of course all of this costs money, but much of the labor can be obtained without cost through interested volunteers with various skills right here in our own neighborhood! Some of the major work that still needs to be finished before we move forward includes:
1. Clearing the land of the remaining debris and vegetation;
2. Hauling off and removing the debris that gets cleared away (and some that is
still there);
3. Professionally pruning the trees (especially hundred-year oaks) that are in the
area. (This will have to be professionally contracted to a company such as
TruGreen Landcare.)
Once we have finished cleaning up this area, we can begin landscaping and purchasing whatever amenities may be necessary for the completion of this project. This park should blend in nicely with the proposed trail and walkbridge around the retention pond between Le Ann and Stallion Drive.
Trail Behind Retention Pond
The retention pond between Stallion Drive and Le Ann Lane has the remnants of what was once a mulch walking trail. As with the trail mentioned below, this has become worn and unuseable for most residents. The HOA has obtained a donation of 20 tons or crushed granite from Blake McGee Development and we are currently awaiting warmer weather along with some plan finalizations in ordeer to proceed with rebuilding this trail. This is planned to lead into the park described above.
Trail Behind Cedar Park Public Library
This 'trail' was originally installed by the developrs of Quest Village and was covered in cedar mulch rather than being made of concrete or other such suitable material. Due to this fact and the length of time that it has been in place, this trail has become worn and is unsuitable for bicycles or any other such means of transportation. Kevin Harris has worked closely with the City of Cedar Park to obtain funding for the paving (with concrete) of this trail so as to allow for bicycles and regular pedestrial traffic without footing hazards or maintenance and upkeep issues. The projected cost of this project is estimated at $20,000 and we had originally received a confirmation that this project was going to be implemented soon, however, the delay at this point lies with the City of Cedar Park. The trail is planed to run from the city library to the mailboxes on Stallion Drive.
Ornamental Entry Signs into Quest Village
The HOA would like to install decorative entry signs at the entrance into Quest Village off of F.M. 1431, however, the revenue required to begin such an expensive project is not currently available. This is something that has been mentioned by many residents as one of the models for such an entry is the entrances to Heritage Park (on Bagdad Road). Residents are encouraged to provide input on how to proceed with this project.
